CEAL@UNC recently submitted a response to the Department of Health and Human Services’ request for comment to the Update to the National Plan To Address Alzheimer’s Disease (HHS-ASPE-2026-0298). The National Plan guides federal efforts across research, care delivery, public health, and data infrastructure to accelerate scientific progress and improve support for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and their care partners.
CEAL@UNC’s comments highlight the important role of assisted living in providing quality person-centered care for those living with dementia, with more than 40% of residents living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Additionally, our comments (below) recognize the importance of encouraging participation in two National Institute on Aging, large-scale, data collection efforts: the National Dementia Workforce Study and the Long-Term Care Data Cooperative, both of which have tremendous potential to “strengthen the evidence base for dementia care in assisted living and promote the development, evaluation, and dissemination of effective models, programs, and care practices.”
