Experts in the fields of health, long-term, and dementia care, including CEAL@UNC faculty, staff, and affiliates, recently published a supplemental issue to the Journal of Applied Gerontology titled, “Reconstructing Person-Centeredness.” The supplement “recognizes the need to more deeply understand the challenges and conceptualizations of person-centeredness.” Eleven articles examine person-centeredness from multiple perspectives, including its conceptual foundations, expression across care settings (including assisted living), and practical limitations.
Key findings include the identification of tensions inherent to person-centeredness felt by both individuals and organizations; an examination of long-term and healthcare provider perspectives on person-centeredness; and the growing intersection between technology and person-centered dementia care.
