CEAL@UNC Executive Director Dr. Sheryl Zimmerman was recently quoted by McKnight’s Senior Living in their article discussing new research findings related to the discharge of assisted living residents living with mental illness.
The article and related research describe the need for research examining the “mental, functional and physical health outcomes of individuals with mental illness after discharge from a post-acute or long-term setting.” In McKnight’s, Dr. Zimmerman describes the rise of residents living with mental illness, stating that “for this very reason, recommendations for medical and mental care in assisted living — such as staff training on mental illness and policies and procedures related to suicidal thoughts — are especially relevant.”
