CEAL@UNC Executive Director Dr. Sheryl Zimmerman was recently quoted in a national news article on the development of the first planned “dementia village” in the United States, a model of residential dementia care inspired by similar initiatives in Europe. In the piece, Dr. Zimmerman notes that in the U.S., “residential care environments have increasingly been embracing a sense of household.”
As assisted living has become the nation’s largest provider of long-term residential dementia care, CEAL@UNC recognizes the importance of scientific evaluation of both existing and novel models of residential housing and care to understand the impact of varying practices and policies on resident outcomes.
